God’s call to service is a transformative invitation, but it can also be a challenge. Many times, we wonder if we’re ready to say “yes,” as Isaiah did in Isaiah 6:8:"Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’"But how can you truly know if you’re ready? Here, we’ll explore some key aspects to help you discern this call.
1. Listen to His Voice
The first step is to be in communion with God. This happens through prayer, meditating on His Word, and being open to listen. Like Isaiah, you may hear the call when you sincerely seek God. Ask Him in prayer, “Lord, what do You want from me?”
Matthew 28:19-20 reminds us that Jesus gave us a clear mission:"Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations..."While this call is for all believers, it manifests uniquely in each of us.
2. Examine Your Heart
Being ready to serve doesn’t mean having all the answers or being perfect. It means having a willing heart. God isn’t looking for perfection but for obedience. As 1 Samuel 16:7 says:"People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart."If you feel a burden to help others, teach His Word, or serve in your community, that could be a sign that God is planting His purpose in your heart.
3. Take the First Step in Faith
Often, preparation for service begins when we take the first step, even if we don’t feel ready. Moses doubted his ability to lead Israel, but God reassured him:"I will be with you" (Exodus 3:12).Trust that God will equip you along the way. Remember, He doesn’t call the qualified; He qualifies the called.
4. Seek Confirmation
God often confirms His call through His Word, the advice of spiritual leaders, or circumstances. Talk to a mentor or church leader about your concerns and seek their guidance. The faith community can be a tremendous support in discerning God’s call.
Are You Ready?
Being ready doesn’t mean having it all figured out. It means being willing to say, like Isaiah, “Here am I. Send me.” God will take care of the rest.
