History
Hands and Feet Ministries originally committed to aid in the building of Lazaro Cardenas Elementary School or “Nava School” in 2003. However due to several obstacles the school wasnʼt officially opened until August of 2008. Believing our commitment was fulfilled we began working on other projects. However, after the school had been opened for only two years it was in danger of losing all itʼs financial and administrative assistance from the United States and we were asked to step in and help. Feeling compelled by our past efforts to construct the school and seeing the fruit that only two years had yielded we began fundraising for Nava School in 2009. Later that year we were asked as a ministry to take on the school full time. Hand and Feet Ministries decided that God had placed this orphaned school in our lap and was leading us to take care of it. Since then Nava School has been where the majority of our ministry outreach takes place. We believe that the children that attend this school are who Christ refers to as “the least of these” (Matt 25:40) and that Nava School is a “cup of cold water” (Matt 10:42) in a desert of hopelessness.
Mission The mission of Nava School is to provide a warm and loving environment for children to learn fundamental education and truths about Jesus Christ.
Location
Where Nava School is located plays a pivotal role in the reason we are there. Because Nava is a rural town Mexicoʼs school attendance laws are not strictly enforced, and many children never even make it to secondary school (middle school). Also, because Nava Mexico is a small town close to the Mexican/American border many children who drop out of school in poor areas of the city are often lured into Mexican cartels by the glamorous lifestyle portrayed by local thugs. Our goal is to instill in these children the importance of a relationship with Christ and an education so that they are not faced with the decision of making minimum wage (less than $10 a day) or joining a violent drug cartel.
