Balama, Liberia

babyhug.jpgFor fifteen long and painful years, civil war tore apart lives and all semblance of organization in Liberia, a nation once considered the great hope of modern Africa. Four years later, with a stable government and a desire to put their country back together, the Liberian people find themselves daunted by the task of rebuilding a devastated infrastructure.

130 miles east of the capital of Monrovia sits the village of Balama. The war left many orphans, and Mother Elizabeth’s Orphanage houses sixty-eight of these beautiful children. Their needs include provision for food, clean water, shelter, medical care, clothing, and education.
